Interventional stent treatment for aortic aneurysm

The endovascular interventions (EVAR, Endovascular Aortic Repair) using stent grafts (vascular supports) are less stressful. The intervention is usually performed under general anaesthesia, but can also be performed under local anaesthesia and mild sedation.

The vascular prostheses are inserted with catheter support via the exposed inguinal arteries and placed and anchored at the extended aortic site under fluoroscopic control. By placing the stent, which is coated with polyester or PTFE, the aneurysm is switched off, i.e. separated from the blood flow in the aorta.

As a result, the blood pressure that exists in the aorta no longer affects the aneurysm. Further growth of the aneurysm and the associated risks are thus prevented. If a dissection has already taken place, the tear is closed by the stent and the corresponding section of the aorta is stabilized.

Operation access

Access is gained by exposing the arteries in the groin.

Double security for EVAR interventions

An EVAR procedure always includes preparation for surgical intervention, so that the specialists at the Heart Clinic can react immediately in an emergency.
