Dear referring physicians, colleagues and visitors,
We would like to inform you about our activities last year: For the Heart Clinic, 2023 was marked by the 10th anniversary of HerzKlinik Hirslanden. What was founded in 2013 by Roberto Corti and Jürg Grünenfelder and started with a small group of people from the USZ has now become a medium-sized company with over 50 employees and a serious player in the regional and national cardiology/cardiac surgery landscape.
10th anniversary summer party
This was reason enough to invite everyone to the 10th anniversary summer party at the end of June 2023, which was held at the beautiful Sihlberg Castle in the heart of the city of Zurich. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Edgar Schwyn and his family once again.
Over 250 guests celebrated and danced in the wonderful atmosphere of the castle. It was also a great opportunity to raise a glass to another 10 successful years with all employees, friends, families and acquaintances of the HerzKlinik!
The excellent catering, the live acts by DJ Carol Fernandez and our very talented singer Diana Reser as well as the highlight of the evening, the live performance by musician Seven and his band, will certainly be remembered by all as a memorable and unforgettable event.
Anniversary symposium of the HerzKlinik
At the end of September 2023, our scientific anniversary symposium of the HerzKlinik also took place at the Sorell Hotel Zürichberg: it was an interesting and varied afternoon of training with contributions from various areas of cardiology and cardiac surgery, to which our closest referring physicians and all HerzKlinik employees were invited.
The social side of the event was rounded off with a convivial dinner in the rooms of the traditional Hotel Zürichberg,

Heart Clinic Foundation "Coeur équitable" project in Madagascar
The Heart Clinic established its own foundation, the Heart Clinic Foundation, in 2021. At the end of November 2022, the foundation's first mission took place with the "Coeur équitable" project in Madagascar. The Heart Clinic Foundation is cooperating with the local NGO of the same name, "Coeur équitable", to support the establishment of the first invasive cardiology unit in Madagascar.
Prior to this, a small delegation from the Heart Clinic Foundation traveled to Antananarivo in July 2022 to inspect the hospital and the angiography facility. Since then, the Foundation has helped organize the necessary material (stents, etc.) and the training of local MTRAs.
At the end of November, Patric Biaggi, Roberto Corti and Oliver Gaemperli traveled to Antananarivo on behalf of the foundation to inaugurate the cardiac catheterization laboratory and carry out the first cardiac catheter examinations on Malagasy soil. The media interest was very high and the feedback from various sides was very positive.
Heart Clinic Foundation: 18-year-old patient from Madagascar treated
On February 7, 2023, 18-year-old Ando Ny Aina from Madagascar was treated at the HerzKlinik. The young patient had been suffering from atrial flutter for over a year without any modern treatment options in Madagascar.
As part of the "Coeur équitable" project, our Heart Clinic Foundation, together with Klinik Hirslanden, made the patient's crossing and successful interventional treatment (ablation) by Prof. Jan Steffel possible. The procedure and the entire project were covered by TeleZüri in a short report on the health consultation "Check-Up" and broadcast at the beginning of March 2023

On July 27, an operation was broadcast LIVE from the Hirslanden Clinic's hybrid operating theater at the international congress "TCT India&South Asia 2023" in Mumbai, India.
Roberto Corti, Oliver Gaemperli and Ioannis Kapos performed a percutaneous catheter-assisted reconstruction on a 75-year-old patient who had previously undergone surgery and had a recurrent leaky mitral valve.
PD Dr. Biaggi promoted to Titular Professor of Cardiology by the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich
On 09.10.2023, Patric Biaggi was promoted to Titular Professor of Cardiology by the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich.
Patric Biaggi has been scientifically active in the fields of cardiac imaging and valvular heart disease and has produced various publications in these areas (e.g. periinterventional fusion imaging, role of the heart team in mitral regurgitation patients).
The promotion is more than deserved! We warmly congratulate Patric on this extraordinary academic honor.

HEART CLINIC GOES GREEN
It's not just our interior design with the real green plant wall that is green, we also want to go green with our actions. In order to make a small contribution to the reduction of climate-warming gases and resource consumption, a few interested cardiac clinicians have joined together to form the 'Green Team' within the clinic. We have measured our electricity consumption and introduced energy-saving measures.
For example, switching off the echo machines during the day and unplugging them at night and at weekends reduces the power consumption of the echo machines by almost 50%. We also recycle our medical plastic waste where possible (approx. 40 kg/year). And we are planning our own study to measure and optimize power consumption during catheter-based procedures.
CENTER OF EXCELLENCE by EDWARDS LIFESCIENCES
Since 2022, HerzKlinik Hirslanden has been the first and only clinic in the world to be named a Center of Excellence for the Heart Team concept by Edwards Lifesciences.
As part of this Center of Excellence program, teams of cardiologists and cardiac surgeons from Austria, Spain, Brazil/Mexico/Colombia and the Czech Republic were invited to the Heart Clinic for a 2-day workshop every quarter in 2023. During these workshops, live cases of minimally invasive valve operations and interventional valve procedures are demonstrated and discussed.
This underpins our unique heart-team approach with additional presentations and lively discussions, leading to very interesting exchange opportunities with colleagues from all over the world.
SIWF advanced training status A for cardiology and B for cardiac surgery
By the way, did you know that we are also a training clinic? As HerzKlinik Hirslanden , we have SIWF training status A for cardiology and B for cardiac surgery. We currently have 5 junior doctors working here, all of whom we finance ourselves.
