Minimally invasive surgical aortic valve replacement

Surgical aortic valve replacement is performed in cases of severe heart valve defects, narrowed (stenotic) aortic valve stenosis, leaking (insufficient) aortic valve or combined diseases (valvular valve disease). SAVR stands for Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement.

At the Heart Valve Center, the operation is usually minimally invasive without opening the sternum. The patient requires general anesthesia and is connected to the heart-lung machine. Thanks to the minimally invasive procedure, the recovery time following the operation is quicker and patients are mobile again more quickly.

Surgical access for surgical valve replacement

For the minimally invasive aortic valve replacement, only a small incision in the chest area is necessary (1). The thorax no longer needs to be cut through as before (2).
