Aortic root replacement with aortic valve prosthesis for aortic aneurysm (Bentall composite replacement)
For combined diseases where there is an aneurysm (dilatation) of the ascending aorta and a non-reconstructable disease of the aortic valve, aortic root replacement (composite replacement according to Bentall) has become the standard therapy.
In this case, the diseased heart valve and the dilated part of the aorta and root are cut out and replaced with a combined aortic valve-aortic vessel prosthesis.
Operation access
The aortic root is replaced via a median sternotomy (splitting of the sternum).
